Teaching # 12 "Consider Jesus"
Hebrews 3:1

Wherefor, holy brethern, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostel and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus:

I wanted us to do that today, Consider Jesus. We have been looking at Him as the final revelation, as the supreme creator, and as better than angels. We saw he became man to rescue man from the fall, And as the writer challenges them to look at his superiority, so I ask us to just stop and consider him today. I think I got the gist of this from a man named James Crumpton years ago.

We saw Last time that Jesus went through his sufferings so he could understand personally and experientially OUR sufferings and trials.

Now as Ch. 3 begins “wherefore” Because of all we have seen about the excellent Christ, HOLY BROTHERS, the ones who are saved, true believers ones who have received the message. And I wanted to focus on this verse today because what the Spirit of God says here will help us to be who we need to be in Christ.

And here it is “CONSIDER JESUS, the Apostle and High priest of our profession.”
The term here ;Consider is to perceive, understand, observe, contemplate and it is an intensive word, scrutinize, take full account of. So today let’s do that.
Bill Gaither wrote:

Jesus, the mere mention of His name can calm the storm, heal the broken, raise the dead. At the name of Jesus, I’ve seen sin hardened men melted,

derelicts transformed, the lights of hope put back into the eyes of a hopeless child... At the name of Jesus, hatred and bitterness turn to love

and forgiveness, arguments cease.

I’ve heard a mother softly breathe His name at the bedside of a child delirious from fever, and I’ve watched that little body grow quiet and the fevered brow cool.

I’ve sat beside a dying saint, her body racked with pain, who in those final seconds summoned her last ounce of ebbing strength to whisper earth’s sweetest name - Jesus, Jesus...

Emperors have tried to destroy it; philosophies have tried to stamp it out. Tyrants have tried to wash it from the face of the earth with the very blood of those who claimed it. Yet it still stands.

And there shall be that final day when every voice that has ever uttered a sound - every voice of Adam’s race shall raise in one great mighty chorus to proclaim the name of Jesus - for in that day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is LORD !!!!

Ah - so you see it was not mere chance that caused the angel one night long ago to say to a virgin maiden, “His name shall be called JESUS.” Jesus - Jesus- Jesus. You know, there IS something about that name.

All the pens on earth would run dry before they could sum up all that is in that name. Jesus is the beginning and the end - the Alpha , the first letter of the Greek Alphabet. Before anything else was made Jesus was with God and was God and by Him were all things made and in him all things hold together.

Jesus is our Apostle or sent one, the ambassador form God to us and an advocate form us to God Almighty. Jesus said “All power has been given to me.” Ephesians 1:10 says he has all things under his feet and he is the head of the church.

He is the ARM of the Lord, the power of God at work in us, Isaiah 52 :10 says: “The Lord has bared his holy arm in the sight of all the nations that the ends of the earth may see the salvation of our God.

HE is the Ancient of Days, always was and always will be.

He is approved of God, Luke 9:35 “God’s spirit like a dove descends and says “This is my beloved son, hear ye him.”

HE is our Ark to shelter us from God’s Judgment, the Anchor for our souls, the answer for all our questions must be brought to the foot of his cross. Rev 3 14-21 says he is our AMEN, or faithful and true witness.

He is the Anointed, the Angel of the Lord, the Author of our faith and he is our all-in -all, He is our atonement...surely Jesus is our ALPHA.

But he is also the bread of life, our brother, the bridegroom. our beloved, he is blessed and the blesser, he is the brightness of God’s glory and the Bright and morning star. HE is called the Branch of Jesse and the branch of righteousness in Jeremiah.

He was a Babe he was bruised for our sins,

HE is also our C...Creator, Christ, Counselor acc to IS. 9:6. He is compassionate, chosen one, a carpenter and as we just saw in chapter 2 he is the captain of our salvation. He is our covering, cornerstone and because he is our crucified one he is also our...

Dwelling place (Ps. 90:1-2) the restorer of our dominion, our delight, deliverer defender,
He is the Door says John 10:9 and the dayspring or daystar to light our way.

Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us, Equal with God He is everlasting father our ensign or banner. The express image of God as well as our expectation and example.

He is exalted, eternal, excellent and the everlasting life. He si also the END: The end of the law for righteousness to all who believe(Rom. 10:9)

Jesus is forgiving, a friend, faithful, our father, our fountain and the fairest. He was forsaken...but he is the finisher of our faith.

He is our Guide our grace, he is great and our gift and the giver. He is glory, governor and he is God.

He is our habitation, our hiding place, he is holy. He is heartbroken, humble, the healer and the hope. He is our head. He was human although fully God.

He is I AM, invisible, instructor, intercessor, our inheritance, our immortality and as we have seen he is the Image of God. The Incarnate word.

He is perfect, persecuted pure and he is so very precious.

Q: Jesus is our quickener to make us alive.

R: Says he is our redeemer, repairer refiner, righteousness, our refuge. He is our ruler and our resurrection. He was rejected yet became our ransom and reconciliation and our rest. HE is the root of David, the rock of offense but thank God he is Risen. He is our rescuer , restorer, the rod of correction and the river of living water.

S: He is our savior, one spirit, our sweetest one, our sanctification, and strength. He is sufficient, steadfast, our standard. He is the Second Adam, sweet savor and our surety.

HE is the Son of God, Son of man, Son of David and our sympathizer. He is Servant, shepherd, sacrifice shecinah the same yesterday today and forever.

He is the stone laid for us in Zion, the seed of the woman, the sower our song and the seeker of lost sheep.

Renan, the French philosopher says “all that is good and excellent in nature is condensed in Jesus Christ.”

Thomas Paine the infidel said: “ The morality that he preached has not been exceeded by any.”

Rousseau (Jean Jacques) said: “If the life and death of Socrates was that of a martyr, then the life and death of Jesus was that of God.”

Socrates taught for 40 years, Plato for 50, Aristotle for 40 and Jesus for only 3, yet those three years transcend in influence the combined 130 of those others.

Jesus painted no pictures yet the paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo, and DaVinci all received their inspiration from him.

Jesus wrote no poetry but Dante. Milton, and scores of the worlds greatest poets were inspired by him.

Jesus composed no music Still Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Bach, and Mendelssohn reached their highest perfection of melody in the Hymns, symphonies oratorios written in his praise.

Every sphere of human greatness has been incomparably enriched by this humble carpenter of Nazareth. His birth was contrary to the laws of life, his death contrary to the laws of death.

He owned no cornfields or fisheries yet he could spread a table for 500 and have bread and fish to spare.

Phillip Brooks wrote: “I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched and all the Navies that were ever built and all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that have ever reigned put together, have not affected the life of man on earth as powerfully as has that ONE solitary life...”

Pharisees, with what word would you reproach Jesus?

He eateth with publicans and sinners.”

Caiaphas, what have you got to say? “He is a blasphemer claiming to be God.

Pilate, what is your opinion? “I find no fault in him.”

And you Judas who sold your master for 30 pieces of silver, have you some charge
against Jesus? “I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood.

YOU, Centurions and soldiers who crucified him, what have you to say? “TRULY THIS MAN WAS THE SON OF GOD.”

And demons? He is the Son of God.”

John the Baptist what say you? “Behold the lamb of God.”

John the Apostle “He is the Bright and morning star.”

Peter what say you of your master? “He is the Christ, the son of the living God.”

And Thomas? “My Lord and My God.”

Paul, you persecuted him, what do you say against him? “I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.

Angels of Heaven, what do you think? “Unto you is born a savior which is Christ the Lord.

And Father in Heaven, what is your word, you who know all things?

And the answer, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.

Dear ones in Christ, Consider Jesus and ask yourself, “What do you think of Christ?
